In the modern landscape of resource development, cultivating a resilient corporate infrastructure is much like preparing the soil for a bumper harvest it requires patience, calculated strategy, and the right expertise at the helm. Aim-listed Kefi Gold and Copper, which is actively driving mine development projects across Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia, has announced the appointment of veteran mining executive Danny Callow as an independent nonexecutive director with immediate effect. Callow steps into the role to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Richard Robinson following the company’s recent Annual General Meeting.
Bringing a bumper crop of hands-on operational leadership to the board, Callow’s credentials across the African continent run deep. His extensive track record includes former stints as Head of African Copper Operations for Glencore, CEO of Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia, and CEO of Mutanda Copper Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Over the past seven years, Callow has also served at Toubani Resources, transitioning through the roles of Chief Operating Officer, CEO, executive chairperson, and most recently, nonexecutive director. His deep understanding of regional dynamics provides Kefi with the operational foresight needed as its development projects mature toward full-scale yield.
Alongside this key appointment, Kefi outlined a structured governance framework designed to streamline oversight across its operations. Pending the start of commercial production at its flagship Tulu Kapi mine in Ethiopia, the board’s established policy maintains a balance between founding executive directors the executive chairperson and finance director and four independent nonexecutive directors. Callow will take the reins as chair of the operations and physical risks committee, joining fellow nonexecutive committee leads Dr. Alistair Clark (senior independent director, deputy chairperson, and chair of the ESG and sustainability committee), Addis Alemayehou (nomination and remuneration committee chair), and Maleda Bisrat (audit and risk committee chair).
To ensure complete clarity and seamless transparency, all nonexecutive directors will soon join the boards of Kefi’s main subsidiary companies: fully owned KME Minerals Ethiopia Holdings Share Company (KMEH) and 95%-owned Tulu Kapi Gold Mines Share Company (TKGM). Senior management figures are also stepping into subsidiary leadership positions to maximize local accountability. kefi Group COO Eddy Solbrandt will serve as director of KMEH and deputy chair of TKGM, Ethiopia Country Adviser Abera Mamo steps in as deputy chair of KMEH, and Simon Cleghorn continues as Managing Director of TKGM. Looking further down the row toward mid-2028 when production at Tulu Kapi is slated to begin the company plans a smooth executive transition where a new CEO will be appointed, the current executive chairperson will pivot to a nonexecutive chairperson role, and a successor will be appointed for the retiring finance director.
“Kefi’s organisational structure is being expanded and refined in preparation for its next stage,” said Kefi executive chairperson Harry Anagnostaras-Adams. “Today’s announcement highlights Danny Callow’s very welcome appointment as a nonexecutive director of Kefi. Danny brings to our team first-class hands-on African mine development experience and he will focus on closely monitoring project development and, in due course, operations.”
Anagnostaras-Adams underscored that these internal governance enhancements extend beyond board appointments to cultivate long-term enterprise value across all active regions. “Today’s announcement also summarises the planned and very deliberate composition of the board and the board committees which are designed to maximise transparency and quick information flow,” he added. “A similarly considered deep and deliberate approach is taking place as regards the board and management structure of the subsidiary companies, including at newly formed Ethiopian holding company KME Minerals Ethiopia Holdings Share Company and the main operating company TKGM Share Company. Likewise, Gold and Minerals Limited, in Saudi Arabia, has recently expanded its board and is creating an appropriate board committee for operational oversight as it also prepares for project development.”
