With the acquisition of Australia-based MRA Automation, Metso has expanded its bulk material handling capabilities by enhancing its automation, digitalisation and software offering for ports and terminals globally. The Finnish engineering group announced on February 2 that it has acquired Newcastle, New South Wales-based Multiskilled Resources Australia (MRA Automation), a privately owned engineering company specialising in automation and software solutions for bulk material handling operators.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, with Metso confirming that the deal has no material impact on its financials. The acquisition strengthens Metso’s position in bulk and port solutions by integrating MRA Automation’s expertise in stockyard equipment, advanced software platforms and smart automation technologies. MRA is recognised as a leading provider of automation and digitalisation solutions for bulk material handling operations worldwide.
Metso’s Grinding, Bulk, Pyro and Smelting Services’ Senior Vice President, Jonathan Allen said, “MRA’s expertise and innovative approach to stockyard equipment align seamlessly with our growth ambitions in bulk and port solutions. With MRA’s advanced software platform and services, we are expanding our offering for bulk and port customers, strengthening our presence in key Australian markets and accelerating our global reach,” said Allen.
The company further said customers will benefit from integrated, end-to-end solutions designed to improve operational efficiency, safety and lifecycle support across bulk material handling operations. MRA Automation Managing Director Rodney Devetak said joining Metso would unlock new opportunities for both customers and employees, while MRA Director of Engineering Peter McPherson highlighted the global rollout potential of the company’s Smart Automation Products following the acquisition.
Founded in Australia, MRA Automation employs around 60 specialists and delivers proprietary smart automation services alongside its Axo33 Smart Software products to bulk and port operations worldwide. The acquisition further reinforces Metso’s bulk material handling portfolio, which spans railcar dumpers, feeders, conveyors, stackers, reclaimers, ship loaders and unloaders and cable belt conveyor systems. Backed by more than 100 years of experience and over 8,000 bulk material handling installations globally, Metso continues to position itself as a full-lifecycle solutions provider for evolving customer needs.
