Tanzania Opens Its Doors to Chinese Capital Across Key Growth Sectors

The Tanzanian government is actively courting Chinese investment across its industrial, mining, agricultural and renewable energy sectors, with Minister for Industry and Trade Judith Kapinga making a direct appeal to business leaders during a visit to Hangzhou, China.

Kapinga pointed to Tanzania’s market of 64 million people and its gateway position into East and Southern Africa as compelling reasons for Chinese firms to establish operations in the country. “Tanzania has a large market of 64 million people and access to markets in East Africa and Southern Africa. We welcome Chinese investors to come and do business with us,” said Kapinga, framing the outreach as a natural deepening of the two countries’ long-standing political and developmental ties.

The minister expressed confidence that the engagement would mark a significant step in elevating economic relations beyond diplomacy and into tangible commercial activity,a shift Tanzania’s industrialisation agenda increasingly depends on.
