Tanzania Invites Belarus to Tap into Booming Mining Sector

Tanzania is actively courting Belarusian investors to capitalize on its burgeoning mining sector, with a focus on modernizing small-scale mining operations and processing raw minerals domestically.

Speaking during a recent meeting with Belarusian Ambassador Pavel Vziatkin, Minister for Mining Anthony Mavunde highlighted the country’s rich mineral endowment, encompassing a diverse range of metals, gemstones, and strategic minerals. He emphasized that President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration has created a conducive investment climate, attracting significant foreign investment.

A key opportunity for Belarusian investors lies in Tanzania’s ban on raw mineral exports. This policy shift encourages value-addition within the country, necessitating the establishment of processing plants. Minister Mavunde also underscored the potential for Belarusian companies to provide affordable mining equipment to small-scale miners, who remain a vital contributor to the national economy.

Tanzania’s mining sector is experiencing a period of rapid growth, with over a dozen large-scale projects nearing completion. These developments are poised to solidify Tanzania’s position as a leading producer of strategic and essential minerals in Africa.

To facilitate further investment and partnerships, the Tanzania Mining Investment Conference (TMIC) is scheduled to take place from November 19th to 21st, 2024, in Dar es Salaam. This event will provide a platform for Belarusian companies to explore investment opportunities, network with industry leaders, and gain insights into the latest trends and technologies in the mining sector.

Ambassador Vziatkin expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening economic ties between Belarus and Tanzania. He emphasized Belarus’ advanced technological capabilities and its production of robust mining equipment, which could significantly enhance Tanzania’s mining operations.
