Shanta Gold Taps UK Cone Crusher to Boost Tanzania Gold Output

Shanta Gold, a prominent Tanzanian gold producer, has installed a new cone crusher at its New Luika gold mine, a move aimed at enhancing efficiency and bolstering production. The company’s acquisition of a B3 cone crusher from UK-based manufacturer Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies (QMS) is a strategic step to improve its gold extraction process.

The decision to acquire the QMS B3 cone crusher was based on the machine’s robust design and the manufacturer’s reputation for providing reliable after-sales support. The new crusher will process granite, a key step in the conventional carbon-in-leach gold extraction method used at the mine.

Shanta’s New Luika mine, located in southwestern Tanzania, is a hybrid open-pit and underground operation. The mine is known for its safe and efficient practices. The open-pit operations are contractor-based, while the underground long-hole stoping is handled by New Luika employees.

The mine’s processing facility now features the B3 cone crusher, which was instrumental in its selection by Dutch company Maagd Industrial Engineering BV. The crusher now operates approximately 100 hours per week, crushing granite to -25 mm, which not only aids gold recovery but also produces valuable aggregate for on-site use and local infrastructure projects.

According to Jonathan Beck, Managing Director of QMS, the B3 cone crusher is engineered for maximum productivity and low operating costs. Its blend of high motor power, large eccentric throw, and increased speed gives it a greater capacity than other crushers of a similar size.

The successful installation and training of Shanta Gold’s staff by QMS engineer Tom Evans highlights the commitment to providing ongoing technical support. This partnership is expected to improve the New Luika mine’s operational efficiency and support Shanta Gold’s continued growth in the region.
