Tanzania has ignited a new era for its mining sector with the inauguration of its first-ever explosives manufacturing plant. Minerals Minister Anthony Mavunde presided over the launch of Solar Nitrochemicals Limited in the Kisarawe district, a move hailed as a significant step towards value addition and bolstering industries that serve the nation’s strategic mining operations.
Mavunde emphasized that this landmark commissioning would substantially enhance the efficiency and self-sufficiency of mining activities across Tanzania. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a secure and investor-friendly environment, acknowledging the crucial role of investors in generating revenue and creating employment opportunities for Tanzanians.
Highlighting the scale of the nation’s needs, Mavunde noted that Tanzania’s annual demand for explosives stands at a considerable 26,000 tonnes and 10 million individual pieces. The newly operational Solar Nitrochemicals facility is projected to produce an impressive 22,000 tonnes and 15 million pieces annually. This significant capacity is expected not only to drastically reduce Tanzania’s reliance on costly imports but also to position the country as a potential exporter to neighbouring nations.
The launch of this plant signifies a bold step towards greater industrial independence and promises to inject dynamism into Tanzania’s burgeoning mining sector, a key driver of its economic growth.
