Manganese miner Marula Mining is ramping up operations at its Larisoro Mine in Kenya with the signing of a key logistics agreement with Scan Global Logistics (SGL) Group. This partnership marks a significant step forward for Marula, paving the way for the efficient export of manganese ore and the generation of much-needed revenue.
Under the terms of the agreement, SGL Kenya, a subsidiary of the global logistics giant, will take charge of the entire export process. This includes managing the transportation of ore from the mine site in Samburu County to the port of Mombasa, handling all the nitty-gritty of container loading, railing, and shipping. SGL Kenya will also oversee export booking, navigate customs clearance, and ensure smooth sailing through all port-related processes.
This comprehensive agreement comes with an added financial boost for Marula. The company has secured a revolving line of credit worth KSh 12.5 million (approximately $100,000) from SGL Kenya. This vital lifeline will help Marula manage operational costs and working capital during the crucial export phase.
The partnership with SGL Kenya follows a series of key operating contracts secured by Marula in May, which included agreements for the transportation of ore from the mine to Nairobi by a Kenyan-owned company.
Marula CEO Jason Brewer is upbeat about the collaboration. “We’re thrilled to partner with SGL on this critical process for exporting our manganese ore,” he said. “This agreement underscores our commitment to building a sustainable and efficient mining operation in Kenya, contributing to growth across the African continent. SGL’s proven expertise and extensive support network perfectly align with our strategic goals. Our teams are working diligently to ensure a seamless flow of ore from mine to port and ultimately, into international markets.”
With trucks and stockpiles growing, Marula is poised for an exciting new chapter. The imminent flow of revenue will mark a significant milestone for the company and a testament to its commitment to unlocking Kenya’s rich mineral resources.
